I wanted to share with you some of the information we are discovering about the new Infrex Plus prototype units. The reason for sharing is we are entering a new area of self treatment for chronic pain with a modality that has been historically only available in the hospital or clinic. We are creating new knowledge and experiences not previously known. Now rather than drive to a treatment facility the patient can treat at home, work, or even while traveling
using the rechargeable battery packs.
Historical Interferential Treatment
Here are some of the issues we are seeing and discussion on how to use the Infrex Plus when it becomes widely available.
1. Clinically the treatment time for an interferential treatment is 20 - 30 minutes.
2. Clinical interferential units have more output; however output can not exceed patient tolerance.
3. Clinical interferential units generally use larger electrodes, often 4" x 4" sponges, or self adhering electrodes.
4. Traditional tens units use smaller 2" x 2" electrodes.
5. Interferential treatments keep the patient pain free for longer periods of time.
Preliminary Observations Of The Use of Infrex Plus:
1. The same outcome is occurring with the Infrex Plus as one obtains in clinical visits.
2. The Infrex Plus output is much stronger than a conventional tens unit.
3. The Infrex Plus has enough output when the AC adaptor is used to exceed patient tolerance
4. Traditional tens type electrodes will not work effectively for the output on the Infrex Plus on interferential treatment mode.
What to expect from the Infrex Plus unit and how to use:
Please remember these are preliminary observations based on a very limited number of patients trying the Infrex Plus prototypes.
A. Basically it appears most patients are using the unit initially in the clinic for 20- 30 minutes and obtaining immediate relief. The patient then administers a self treatment with the unit at home when the pain returns.
B. The tens application of the Infrex Plus is rarely needed since the interferential treatments appear to have longer periods of pain relief progressing as the unit is used. Our trial patients appear to only need in house treatments and the rechargeable batteries are only for acute situations when an outlet not available.
C. Larger electrodes are needed for interferential treatments.
D. Do not extend treatments over long periods of time but treat more often. There is chance of nausea if unit is worn for hour or more on interferential. No problem with continual 24/7 use on tens mode if needed.
E. 350 microsecond pulse width on the tens treatment side of Infrex Plus is penetrating deeper with more relief than most conventional tens units.
