One big advantage to gaining immediate and longer lasting relief is to use in combination hot packs and electrotherapy.  Infrex and TENS treatments are both improved by treating with the heat pack on while the Infrex or Tens is on.   The advantage of Infrex over traditional tens is the higher frequency increases the conducance but when mosit heat is added the results are instantaneous.

The moist heat pack will increase blood flow to the area being treated.  The increased blood is a good conductor of electricity so the pleasant sensation of the stimulation is felt over a greater area because there is more fluid for the electricity to travel.  Better electrical penetration enhances the potential of greater sensory nerve input thus a quicker, longer lasting relief period.   Moist heat by itself provides for most people some form of temporary relief but the issue is the relief may be only as long as the heat is applied.  Once the heating pack is removed then shortly thereafter the pain may return.

The patient can place the electrodes from the Infrex where they would normally go  and put the heat pads over top or between the electrodes if doing a criss-cross pattern.  Do a 30 minute interferential treatment with the Infrex and upon finishing then swith the Infrex to the tens mode, and wear if needed upon removal of the heat packs.  For many patients the combination of heat and interferential is sufficient and tens is not necessary.
